Fernandina Beach Police Department
October 5, 2021
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to show our support the members of the FBPD are wearing pink ribbons on their uniforms. Some of the reasons we are supporting education and early detection:
•In 2021, it is estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S.
•1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
•This year, it is estimated 43,600 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.
•Breast cancer accounts for 15% of total cancer deaths and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, following lung cancer.
We encourage women to speak to their health care provider about early detection. For those who do not have a health care provider, information on The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program can be obtained by calling 904-875-6100.
