FBCC approves voluntary annexation requests to add >39 acres to City; another 4+ acres to follow

By unanimous votes and with no discussion or voiced public concern, the Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC) at its November 17, 2020 Regular Meeting finalized annexation of more than 39 acres into the City by approving 3 requests for voluntary annexation on Second Reading.  Annexing the Baptist Nassau Medical Center properties (Ordinance 2020-39) added 31.39 acres; the Plantation Hammock Subdivision on Simmons Road accounted for an additional 4.32 acres (Ordinance 2020-33); and 3.7 acres of land located at 2233 and 2246 Sadler Road (Ordinance 2020-36) were also added to the City boundary.

On First Reading the FBCC also unanimously approved other requests for voluntary annexation of more than 4 additional acres.  There will be a Second Reading scheduled before final approval can be granted.

Ordinance 2020-43:  3001 S. 14th Street (0.5 acres)

Ordinance 2020-46:  Properties located on S. 14th Street, S. 15th Street, Nectarine Street and Pappy’s Place totaling 3.87 acres of land.

I can certainly understand why there were no objections from the commission, as they need to add anything they possibly can to help pay for our OVER budget marina with property taxes in the very-near future.
