Here are the provisional results from the Dec. 13 Fernandina Beach City Commission election:
Seat 4
Mike Lednovich 2037 46.25%
James L. Antun 2366 53.74%
Seat 5
Genece Minshew 2098 47.58%
Darron Ayscue 2311 52.2%
Although these votes are provisional, the wide difference means they are definitive. Therefore, the new Fernandina Beach City Commission has been decided.
Check back to the Observer tonight and tomorrow for more information.
The turnout of registered voters was better than I thought it would be. Glad to see that and hope the “interest” in our community continues.
It’s great to see the defeat of Mike Lednovich. He is a major reason for the former lack of progress in the redevelopment of the City Golf Course. He criticized its condition of the course and was directly responsible for wasting money to develop Top Tracer. It was only through the efforts of golf course manager Mike Cooney and Golf Course Superintendent Blaine Ellerby that Top Tracer has shown a modest profit AND the golf course has shown credible and significant improvement. Goodbye Mike. Glad to see you go!!!
These election results are heartbreaking – Fernandina Beach will embark on a path of ambitious development, where quality of life and the wellbeing of everyone but the wealthy will be the victims. The city council has been protected from such blatant political abuses of power in the past. This is a sad sad outcome.
Congratulations to Mr. Antun and Mr. Ayscue on their successful campaign and thanks to Ms. Minshew and Mr. Lednovich for their service to the community which I am sure will continue in a variety of forms.
It certainly will be interesting to see how the future direction of the City with regards to its major issues moves.
Interesting results between the General and Runoff elections.
In the General: Lednovich 3168…..Antun 2365.
In the Runoff: Lednovich 2037…….Antun 2366.
In the General: Minshew 2894…….Ayscue 2229.
In the Runoff: Minshew 2098………Ayscue 2311.
Lednovich and Minshew lost significant votes (somewhat expected with 2600 less voters), but Anton and Ayscue increased their vote count with less votes cast. Their base of support stayed surprisingly solid. Additionally, the margin of victory/loss is comparable enough to assume voters either voted for one “pair” or the other.
Well…..congratulations to the victors for running a solid campaign……let’s hope their work on the FBCC is just as solid.
