Stop the invasion! City of Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation staff and volunteers will be removing invasive Kalanchoe, or “mother of millions,” from along Ocean Ave. on March 9, 2021. This plant, like all invasives, threatens the existence of valuable native dune plants along our coast.
Whether you participate in these group efforts or not, please consider removing Kalanchoe from your property by pulling and bagging it securely before disposal in order to prevent further spread. Once removed from the dunes, the threat of reintroduction from neighboring properties will remain a threat.
If you would like to assist with this volunteer effort at the City’s beach accesses, please pre-register by completing the City’s online waiver at www.smartwaiver.com/v/invasives (valid for 1 year). Meet at accesses 4N-5N off of Ocean Avenue at 9:00 am Tuesday, March 9. Long sleeves and gloves are recommended.
