Four Local Writers, Three Crime Stories and One Special Event

Amelia Island Writers presents a special event – When Crime Meets Truth and Imagination – March 26 with four local writers. The event is 4-6 p.m. at the Amelia Island Museum of History.

From diverse backgrounds, two new neighbors became acquainted, established a friendship, and then wrote a book together. Kevin Kozak retired as a detective with the Miami-Dade Police Department and moved here with his family. While working in Miami, he compiled observations and saved them. John Drake, a psychologist and author from Maine, retired here with his family and had an interest in expanding his writing. He had been founder and CEO of Drake Beam & Associates, a worldwide consulting firm.

Over the fence or over the hedge, what were the chances that those two neighbors would become partners in crime writing? They got together and looked at Kevin’s anecdotal notes, from which John developed a plot line for a co-authored novel. “New Blue: A Jerry Krone Novel” is a fast-paced read about a rookie cop’s adventures.

Join them and two other local crime/thriller authors for a lively happy hour discussion. The panel is rounded out by Jerry Hester and James Bruner. Jerry’s book, “Mafia Miami,” has just been released, and takes us through a complex investigation with international intrigue. James Bruner is the author of “The Bike Cop” trilogy, a coming-of-age series with life lessons for readers of all ages. Like Kevin and John, Jerry and James retired here with their families.

If you want to attend, please RSVP to Lee Ann Shobe at [email protected] by March 22. Parking is in the adjacent community theatre lot. Books are available for purchase by cash or check.
