The Play’s the Thing 7.0 – Our Town, by Thornton Wilder

Ron Kurtz

Ron Kurtz continues his popular series exploring how “words on the page” become “words on the stage.” The play this time is Our Town, by American playwright Thornton Wilder.

Our Town first appeared on Broadway in 1938 and won the Pulitzer Prize for drama. From the very beginning, Our Town has been produced throughout the world. It is sometimes said that on any given day there is a production of Our Town somewhere in the world. The play explores the universal human experience by asking timeless questions about the meaning of love, life, and death.

The class members will enjoy an inside view of the stagecraft and the people who prepare and stage the play. Reading and seeing a film of the play will provide the basis for group discussion.
