Tree protection in this city is much too lax. Trees are needed for carbon sequestration, shading to help regulate neighborhood temperatures, wildlife habitat, aesthetics for locals and visitors, attenuation of wind and rain during storms, erosion control, and so much more. They are a community resource and should be treated as such.
Please attend or watch. We need to do more to save our mature trees, for the reasons Mark lists and many more. They are critical for stormwater processing and quality of life on Amelia Island. Planting new trees is important, but it will be many years before they can contribute as our older trees do.
