America’s Youth, friends, family, volunteers, and staff were on hand as Barbara Noden Memorial Scholarships were presented by Malcolm Noden to Jason Gidden (Grace Mitchell accepted the award for her grandson}; Travisus Gauthier; Jalay Evans. . The Barbara Noden Memorial Scholarship was awarded Tuesday, July 5, at the America’s Youth Campus on South 11th Street. Barbara Noden who passed away 4 years ago, was a long-time supporter and volunteer coordinator of America’s Youth.  The scholarships were presented by her husband, Malcolm Noden.  Funds are provided by donations through the First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach.

The 2022 recipients are Jalay Evans, Daytona State College, Travisus Gauthier, University of Central Florida; Jason Gidden, ETA Jacksonville to become an electrician, and Joy Hunt, Florida State College Jacksonville.

Each year, Fernandina Beach High School graduates who have met certain criteria are awarded scholarships from the Barbara Noden Memorial Fund.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Must be a former participant of America’s Youth Program.
  • Must graduate from high school with a 3.5 or higher GPA.
  • Must be accepted into an accredited college or vocational school to further his/her education.

 

About America’s Youth:

America’s Youth is a grassroots 501(c)3 community organization founded in 1998, whose mission is to empower youth by instilling positive values, character, and leadership skills.  Centrally located at 907 South 11th Street, in an economically distressed neighborhood where identified at-risk youth (ages 5-17) and families live, it provides after-school tutoring and mentoring at no cost to families  Camp America maximizes keeping youth productive for 10 weeks in the summer, and includes academic learning blocks with paid tutors, swimming, sports training, and field trips.  America’s Youth is funded by area churches, non-profits, and city funding.
