Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society
Press Release
July 5, 2022

Chip Kirkpatrick was a dedicated lifelong fisherman, who planned on spending his retirement in his boat with a rod and reel. But when he retired 11 years ago, a friend introduced him to metal detecting and he hasn’t been fishing since that day. Instead he goes “dirt fishing” looking for lost items.

He offers a free recovery and return service and has 34 returns so far which include jewelry valued at up to $8,000, keys, eyeglasses and even a hearing aid that was lost in the woods.

But this history buff’s real passion is recovering local historical relics which he offers to schools, museums and libraries. Some of his finds have earned him a bit of international fame as they have been published in magazines in the US, UK and Scotland. He is a published author and has several YouTube videos. He is a contributing writer for AMERICAN DIGGER magazine. He is a docent at the Amelia Island Museum of History and volunteers at the West Nassau Historical Museum. He is a member of several historical groups and is an advisor and trainer for the Historical Recovery Association of North Florida.

His presentation will be about some of the historical, unusual and odd relics he has found in our area. We hope you will plan to attend this program presented by The General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society.  The public is welcome to attend this free event at 7:00 PM at the Amelia Island Museum of History located at 233 South Third Street.  For more information, email us at clinchhistoricalsociety@gmail.com

Chip is a great guy, helped me find my wife’s Mom’s lost nursing school pin a few years ago. He does things for others, expecting nothing in return. There aren’t a lot of people like that anymore. Thanks again, Chip.
