It takes a lot of volunteers to build a house! Pictured are a number of volunteers who were “appreciated.”

The stars came out at Cantina Louie as Nassau Habitat for Humanity thanked its volunteers at their annual appreciation dinner.   Fun, fellowship, a delicious buffet, and a few surprises set the stage for Nassau Habitat’s volunteer guests. Over 12 lucky volunteers had winning raffle tickets for wonderful items donated by our generous community. Also, for the very first time, our gold and silver sponsors were publicly thanked with an engraved star.

Volunteers are at the core of what Nassau Habitat does. They are our builders, our fundraisers, our advisors and our leaders.  The major highlight of the evening was when the new board chair Barnes Moore, presented longtime volunteer and immediate past president Al Pertuz with the inaugural Al Pertuz Service Above Self Award.  In addition to his many years of service, Barnes recognized Al by saying “The Nassau Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors presents this award with deep gratitude for your long-term commitment and dedication.  You responded selflessly to fill the void left by sudden changes in leadership. Under your stewardship, Nassau Habitat continued to fulfill its mission to help build family strength, stability, and self-reliance through home ownership.   Our Six on Elm Project which would not have been possible without your vision, long hours of work, and dedication.”
