A Crane Island field trip will be held Saturday, April 30, at 8:00 a.m. We will meet initially at the Bailey Rd Soccer Field parking lot. We will bird around the soccer fields and then move our vehicles to the Crane Island Park.
Theresa Hartz scouted the area yesterday and found some colorful birds that we normally do not see on our trips such as Summer Tanager and Orchard Orioles. We should also see herons, gulls, terns and shorebirds from the boardwalk along the Amelia River.
While Warbler migration has been pushed west by a high pressure system, we will see birds that are residents here. For example, I saw a beautiful male Pained Bunting here last week.
Please bring sun screen, bug lotion and appropriate wear for the weather. I will have a scope for viewing at the river so just bring binoculars.
