Flood Awareness Month!

April 12, 2022

It’s Flood Awareness Month! As a voluntary participant in the National Flood Insurance Program that provides residents with flood insurance at premium rates, we will be publishing periodic flood awareness messages throughout the month as it helps us maintain our flood management ratings.

Tip #3: Protect Yourself
Intense or excessive rainfall can cause canals and ditches to overflow, causing flooding in streets. The flooding can develop slow or quickly and flash flooding can come with no warning.

Find shelter right away
Do not walk, swim or drive through flood waters. Turn around, don’t drown! Remember that just six inches of moving water can knock you down and just one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.

Stay off bridges over fast-moving water

Prepare ahead for bad weather and make a flood emergency plan today. For more information, visit the National Weather Service’s website.
