According to the late comedian and actor, Robin Williams, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!'” Well, spring has sprung, and the birds are singing! Amelia Island is packed with people on spring break simply here to have a good time and make happy memories. No matter the season, you will always find a happy crowd of people at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmer’s market. Open every Saturday, historic Fernandina has been home to the market on North Seventh Street for many years where locals and visitors alike walk or ride their bikes into town for a stroll in this outdoor shopping extravaganza. Saturday hosts both the farmers and arts markets for a total of over 70 merchants offering their home grown, handmade, hand crafted and natural products. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine, you will find soaps, candles, seasonal vegetables, wild caught shrimp, blooming floral baskets, hot sauces, a vegan baker, prepared meals, and that is just a hint of what is in the farmers side of the Market Place.

Here are just a few of the vendors we are showcasing this week. We have a new vendor joining us Saturday, Hillary’s Chicago Pizza, bringing deep dish Chicago pies made from scratch. All-Natural Bug Repellent is returning to the farmers market, and Bacon’s Select Produce not only has fresh, fragrant floral bouquets, but they also grow salad mix, spinach, European seedless cucumbers, kale and a medley of fresh, colorful cherry tomatoes. Empowered Journey Herbals is excited to announce that she now has her Fire Cider back in stock to complement their lineup of elderberry syrup, do-it-yourself kits, and teas. Fire Cider is a well-balanced spicy, sour, sweet, and tart, all natural tonic. It is warming, energizing, and can be a powerful decongestant! Me, Myself and Pies return to the farmers market this week with sweet and savory mini and full-sized pies. St. Mary’s Bee Company is back and they are a wealth of information when it comes to learning the benefits of honey, honey comb, and bee pollen.
Adjacent to the farmers market is the Fernandina Beach Arts Market and among their 30 booths, they have a young artist known as The Wood Carving Dude. Jett Paxton is a 14-year-old local of Amelia Island who began wood carving just two years ago. He carves during the market and has been very busy honing his craft and finds it exciting to see his craft displayed throughout the First Coast area. Gloria Housman owns Sew What? A custom children’s clothing company who also does embroidery and monogrammed items. Hooked by Faith is inspirational art by Faith Elliott, even her sign says, “Happy Art.”
We hope you will drop by for a visit to the markets where Jenn Burns will be performing live music, and your well-behaved leashed pets are always welcome.
