This week’s employee spotlight is on Captain Jim Norman. This month Captain Norman is celebrating 30 years with the FBPD with over 16 of those years at the rank of Captain. Jim has spent a majority of his career in the Support Services Bureau which encompasses Information Technology, Records, Accreditation, Body Cams, Training, Vehicle Coordination, and several other behind the scenes functions that keep the Police Department running. Prior to his promotion to Captain in 2006, Jim worked in Patrol and Investigations.
Getting to know Captain Norman:

Do you have any hobbies? I love the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. Even a day or two camping is enough to recharge, but I really enjoy long camping trips out west or to the Florida Keys.

What is your dream car? Muscle car – 1969 Chevy Camaro.

What is your favorite musical group? I grew up listening to Van Halen. The energy of the group and the amazing guitar of Eddie Van Halen made them my favorite and I still enjoy cranking up their music.

Where were you born? I was born in Jacksonville and raised the Panama Park area. In my teen years, my family relocated to Nassau County and I have been here ever since,
What is your favorite food? I really enjoy Italian-inspired foods. I have a few favorite Italian restaurants locally and in Jacksonville.

Captain Norman is a first class person and the salt of the earth. I met him at a firearms training class and was very impressed at his knowledge not only of firearms but of anything you can think of. We could benefit greatly in the community as well as the entire country if there were more men like him.
