Members of the Poynter and Bean Families gather for photos in honor of the unveiling of the plaque dedicated to Joan Bean.

Seven of nine children of Joan and Red Bean came together at the newly opened Poynter family’s  Duck Pin Bowling establishment for the unveiling of a plaque to honor the late Joan Bean.

According to Diane Bean, Joan and Red risked retirement assets to buy the North 3rd Street property in 1986.  Then Red Bean, went to work constructing  “The Bean School of Dance.” From 1986 to 2020, dancers both young and old came to the studio for lessons.
Joan followed her dreams.

After Joan’s death, the property was purchased by the Poynter Family and was transformed into an entertainment venue for Duck Pin Bowling.  The Poynters honored the history of the building by transforming the wooden dance floors into table and countertops.   The plaque placed on the front of the building honoring Joan is a reminder as to what was.

How pleased Joan and Red would be if they knew children, even adult children, would still be flocking for fun to their old N 3rd Street building.

A class act by the Poynter family to recognize and honor Mrs. Joan Bean. Best wishes for great success for Duck Pin bowling. But to protect yourself from the PETA protests, you might also want to post a sign that “no waterfowl were injured in the development of this entertainment venue.” :>)
