The end of October usually brings three things to NE Florida: cooler temperatures, Halloween, and Georgia/Florida football. Not only will the youngsters be trick or treating this cool, autumn weekend, but it is gameday on Saturday and the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market is the hottest ticket in town for fresh, tailgating favorites.

Looking for something to grill? JD Beef has an amazing selection of beef, pork, and whole chickens. If seafood is on your menu, you can also find Alaskan salmon and local, wild-caught shrimp. Fresh baked breads like Honey Whole Wheat, Dakota, Cinnamon Chip, High 5 Fiber, and Challah are just a few of the breads that are baked from scratch on a daily basis from Great Harvest Bread Company. Ferra Bakery has been baking since 1998 and they bring bagels, garlic sticks, baklava, brownies, spanakopita, cannoli, puff pastry, and focaccia, among others, to the farmers market every Saturday. Other popular bakers at the Market Place include Chubby Cakes with their flair for Halloween decorated mini cupcakes, macaroons and cake in a cup by Breakable Hearts, gluten-free bakery Something Good, and Vegan Amelia.

Seasonal produce vendors, Bacon’s Select Produce, have kale, salad mix, and Heather Bacon’s salad dressing made from her personal recipe. Tommy King, of Kings Kountry Produce, brings a truck and trailer full of pie pumpkins, tomatoes, squash, onions, bell peppers, berries, apples, and more.

It is also time for our “Best Decorated Booth” contest. This is when the small business owners in the market decorate their booths in Georgia, Florida, or Halloween decorations, and customers vote for their favorite! This friendly competition reveals a winning booth who receives a free tent space. Pick up your ballot from the management booth at the top of the hill, at the intersection of Seventh and Centre Streets, in historic Fernandina.

Sponsoring this exciting day at the Market Place is Bath Planet and All American Gutters. Bath Planet can transform your bathroom in as little as a day. They have earned the prestigious Good Housekeeping Seal for installing top-quality products from spa showers to walk-in tubs. John Hirst, of All American Gutter Protection, will be on-site to answer your questions about gutter guards that will keep your gutters free of leaves and clogs.

The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market is open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. For more information, find us on Facebook.
