Some good news for cat and dog owners who live in the City of Fernandina Beach.  As of September 21, 2021 there is no longer a license requirement for your pets.

At the direction of the Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC), the Legal Department has been reviewing the City’s Municipal Code Chapters for clarity and accuracy. The FBCC has approved a massive clean up of Chapter 18 of City Code covering animals.  Following extensive review, staff recommended amending Chapter 18, Animals, to correct numbering errors, incorporate plain language, and to remove a requirement for a separate license for pet ownership within City limits. This Ordinance was approved at First Reading On August 17, 2021.

At their September 21, 2021 Regular Meeting, the FBCC approved 5-0 Ordinance 2021-27 on Second and Final Reading deleting the license requirement.
