Students and volunteers of America’s Youth gathered yesterday to present  Barbara Noden Memorial Scholarships to recent Fernandina Beach High School graduates. America’s Youth is a  non-profit organization that was founded in 1998. Its mission is to work with youth to  “reduce juvenile crime and instill positive values, character, and leadership skills.” Educational programs and community activities help to promote positive change in youth. John Gilbert leads the program with support from numerous volunteers.

Barbara Noden Memorial Scholarships are given yearly in memory of Noden a much loved and devoted volunteer of America’s Youth. Noden’s son Stephen presented the scholarship awards.

To qualify for the scholarships, students must be members of America’s Youth, a high school graduate with a 3.5-grade point average, and be accepted at an accredited or vocational school.

This year’s recipients are:

Kharmari Barksdale – Florida State Community College, Jacksonville

Jacqueline Rodriquez – FAMU, Tallahassee

Taylor Thomas – Tallahassee Community College

Congratulations to all and thanks to all of the community volunteers!

Americas Youth is the planned charity for the Sounds on Centre concert August 1. We are excited to be accepting donations with the help of Dawn and some of the graduated.

Please come to the concert and make a community donation to help these needy children succeed.
