Barnabas volunteer dentist receives prestigious award

Dr. Ken Owens, volunteer Dentist at Barnabas Center receives the Public Service Award from the Florida Dental Association at an awards luncheon on June 25th.

Dr. Ken Owens, volunteer Dentist at Barnabas Center received the Public Service Award from the Florida Dental Association at an awards luncheon on June 25th. Barnabas Center extends its congratulations to Dr. Owens.

Dr. Owens began volunteering twice a week at Barnabas’ dental clinic after retiring from his private practice, the Amelia Dental Group in 2014. To this day, he continues to volunteer and fundraise for Barnabas dental services.

Dr. Owens graduated from the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1969 and then went on to serve in the Army Dental Corps until 1971. After completing his service in the Army, Dr. Owens opened Amelia Dental Group in Fernandina Beach. He and his wife, Shirley, have been married for 52 years and together they have raised two children, Scott and Kelly.

Barnabas is grateful to Dr. Owens for his years of service to its dental services. The Barnabas dental program provides affordable dental services for low-to-moderate income adults who have no health insurance including exams, extractions, cleanings and more. Barnabas provides help and hope to individuals and families in need in Nassau County to improve their stability, health, and well-being.
