DeSantis set to remove local control over mask ordinances?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

Governor Ron DeSantis will soon have the ability to suspend local COVID restrictions including local mask ordinances. According to an article written by Haley Brown of Florida Politics, “Gov. DeSantis is using his current executive power to terminate the local emergency orders through June, but after that, the termination is made possible by new laws that take effect July 1 in an emergency management bill (SB 2006) passed on the last day of Session. The most controversial parts of that law include a vaccine passport ban and limits on local governments to enact emergency orders.”

As of noon today, City Attorney Tammi Bach was not able to receive a copy of an executive order to confirm if the information being circulated among media sources is correct. If true though, Bach said her response is the same as a previous executive order, which banned local governments to enact finds and penalities for violating local mask ordinances.

“The Governor’s latest Executive Order suspending all local COVID restrictions attempts to strip local governments and communities of their home rule powers related to community health”

At a news conference in St Petersburg, Florida, DeSantis said local municipalities would still place limits on the number of people in bars, and business owners can still require mask to be worn in their stores.

The timing of DeSantis’s move to eliminate local mask ordinances is unclear at this time.

And so it ends…..no need to even discuss it Tuesday at the FBCC meeting…..your last extension of the mandate is now moot.

There was one (1) positive test out of almost 300 the other day. Time to move on….

Once more Tallahassee Republicans show their commitment to small government. Local government is always free to govern itself as long as it agrees with Tallahassee.

Finally a leader who recognizes the rights of all people. Wear a mask anyway, any place you want. It sure does limit those power hungry politicians . Private businesses can do as they wish. They can also go out of business on their own. Been saying it for 40 years; thank goodness I live on Florida.

Another example of the Republican philosophy that it is ok to kill other people as long as an individual can do whatever they want. This is toddler mentality, “Me, me, mine!”

The Executive Order is now up on the FLGov website for Tammi to read. I suggest everyonel take 10 minutes to read EO 101 and, particularly, 102. The main point the Governor makes is that there is an ample supply of the vaccine and it is available to all adults…….so get vaccinated! And if you personally feel better with a mask on……..then feel free to wear one. I’m sure at least 3 people will have them on at the FBCC meeting tonight. That now is their choice…….not a mandate.

Once again, a mask is to protect others from you spreading a virus. It does not prevent you from catching it. No one is stopping anyone from wearing one if you want to. But I’m forced to wear one, even if I don’t want to. Is your outrage over this fed by the media? I agree with the suggestion to actually read the bill.

About time some common sense was applied. Too many studies are available that show masks do practically nothing to stop the spread of this virus. One study concludes “There are situations, health care settings mainly or situations of extreme community prevalence with a lot of coughing and sneezing in public, where masks serve a useful purpose. Yet, people who insisted last spring that the epidemic would go away with mask mandates could not have been more wrong. Every consideration shows this.

Nearly all the masks we see people wearing are constructed to no standard, made of varying sorts of cloth, are poorly fitting, are worn with near complete disregard for effectiveness, reused who knows how many times, used for what else we know not, and are often completely open at the cheeks, nose, chin and beard. They appear mainly useful for making a person touch their face constantly”.

I am vaccinated and will wear my mask in public gatherings to protect other people ,many that will never do the same for others.

Follow PROVEN science not politics as I was vaccinated as a child and followed my Doctor’s recommendations and it seemed to serve everyone I know just fine.

There is one truth and too many opinions!
