Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library (FOL) are pleased to announce the upcoming art exhibit “Just Above Water: Florida Folk Art” on display at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library, 25 N 4th Street, from May 1 to October 30, 2021.

This exciting traveling art exhibit comes to Fernandina from the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee and includes a varied collection of objects made from diverse materials such as textile, metal, and wood. Most of the folk artists are self-taught and have been inspired by their customs and traditions. All have been recognized by the State of Florida with the Florida Folk Heritage Award and are residents of Florida.

FOL member Peggy Bulger will serve as guest curator. Ms. Bulger remains active as a Fellow in the American Folklore Society, Florida Folklife Council, and the Florida Humanities Council.

The Friends of the Fernandina Beach Art Committee will be looking for possible loans of folk art to be displayed with this exhibit. Please contact Christine Meehan ([email protected]) or Peggy Bulger ([email protected]) if you have a Florida folk art item of note that you are willing to loan for display at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library.

For further details on this exhibition as well as membership information and volunteer opportunities with the Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library, please visit www.fernandinaFOL.org.
