Editor’s Note: On Saturday, April 11, a community celebration was held in honor of long-time resident Jim Thomas who celebrated his 100th birthday on March 31. Hundreds of church friends, fellow Marines, and numerous other family and friends gathered throughout the early afternoon Saturday in Central Park to extend well wishes. Jim entered the marines as a young man and served during World War II. He was part of the Guadalcanal Campaign in the Pacific. Jim lived all of his life in Nassau County and is a much-loved member of our community. Years ago, the First Presbyterian Church in Fernandina Beach named its fellowship hall in Jim’s honor.
