Nassau County approves Resolution Honoring the Life of Charles Albert

3/10/21 @ 8:45 a.m. – At the meeting held on Monday, March 8, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners approved a Resolution honoring the life of Charles Laverne Albert.

Mr. Albert was a lifelong resident of Nassau County who served our country as a member of the armed forces and spent 35 years teaching Science and Chemistry for the Nassau County School District. He also served as a Commissioner for the City of Fernandina Beach for 18 years and was the City’s first and only African American Mayor to date.

Mr. Albert was very active in the community and served as a role model for local youth. He created the Elm Street Little League and after many years of coaching, the field at the Elm Street Recreation Center was named in his honor. Mr. Albert will always be remembered for his love of science, his service to the community, his kind spirit and great story-telling ability.
