Amelia Lifelong Learning presents a lecture on the origin of local folk medicine starting with the Spaniards and Indigenous people and then goes on to relate what the instructor’s research of local customs has discovered. The lecture concludes by asking the participants for folk medicine traditions that may have been practiced in their families.

Lecturer Marge Powell has been an herbalist for over 30 years. Her interests span the culinary, the medicinal, and body care, as well as growing herbs. She is currently a board member of the West Nassau Historical Society, the International Herb Association (IHA), and the IHA Foundation. In addition, she is chair of Nassau County’s Council for the Arts and Culture.

The lecture will be Thursday, November 19, 10:30 to Noon, at Story and Song, second floor. Masking and social distancing will be observed. Size is limited to 20 participants. Fee $10.
