Wild Amelia is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020 Photography Contest. This year’s selections went through a two-stage judging process. The Wild Amelia board of directors reviewed all the entries and chose the finalists based on content, i.e. pictures which best represented the organization’s mission of protecting the environment through education. The finalists were then rated by professional photographers on technical merit.

Adult Grand Prize Winner:

2020 Grand Prize Winner  for Adult photography is George Houseley, Jr. for his picture of a pipevine swallowtail butterfly on a pickerel weed.

Youth Grand Prize Winner:

2020 Grand Prize Winner  for Youth photography is Penelope Baker for her photograph of a ring-billed gull.

In addition to the two grand prize winners, 13 additional photographs will be featured in the 2021 Wild Amelia calendar. In response to the coronavirus, the 2021 calendar will be offered for free in PDF format. Copies will be distributed to all Wild Amelia members and will be available for download on the Wild Amelia website after December 1st.

An announcement of the dates and rules for the 2021 photography contest will be posted later this year. Potential entrants are reminded there are considerable photo opportunities on Amelia Island during the winter months and nature photography is one of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors within CDC safety guidelines.

Wild Amelia’s mission is to educate residents and visitors about the local bio-region and encourage stewardship of the area’s natural resources through events and programs that educate and entertain while promoting a conservation ethic.
