The Life of Stetson Kennedy

In the 1940s a Jacksonville-based folklorist and civil rights activist named Stetson Kennedy infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan in cooperation with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. After gathering information on their secret meetings and rituals, he exposed them to the public at large and helped gather information about white supremacists groups. Since then there has been a great deal of debate over Kennedy’s life and times. Join us as we invite renowned folklorist Peggy Bulger to help us separate the fact from the fiction.
Peggy Bulger is the author of Stetson Kennedy: Applied Folklore & Cultural Advocacy (2017) and South Florida Folklife (1994) with Stetson Kennedy and Tina Bukavalas. From 1999-2012 Bulger served as director of the American Folklife Center. More recently she has served on the board of the Florida Folklife Council, the Florida Humanities, the National Council for Traditional Arts and Florida Humanities, and the Amelia Island Museum of History.
Attendance is free for museum members and $5 for nonmembers. Seating is limited to 30 people max and is wheelchair accessible. Masks are required.
