Florida Department of Health Issues Daily Update on COVID-19

~ Today, Florida reported the lowest number of new cases since June 14 ~

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Health (DOH), in order to provide more comprehensive data, releases a report on COVID-19 cases in Florida once per day. Today, Florida had the twelfth straight day below 10 percent positivity of new cases. Today, Florida reported the lowest number of new cases since June 14.

Today, as reported at 11 a.m., there are 2,258 new positive COVID-19 cases and 72 reported deaths – 7 occurred yesterday, August 23. As posted on the Agency for Health Care Administration’s hospitalization dashboard at 10:45 a.m., there are 4,658 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19.

Nassau County Emergency Management:

NOTE: Time periods covered in any given FDOH data snapshot or “latest report” vary!  For those residents who are curious about the high numbers of cases added over the weekend – remember that individuals are contagious before they ever experience a symptom. Those cases may have been in contact with others who may now be infected and could be anywhere in the community.

Just knowing the ZIP code of a person who has tested positive does not make any other area “safe” from dangerous germs.  Please do not stop taking precautions, for yourself and others.  Germs spread easily!  Stay home if you might be sick. Cover your mouth/nose whenever you might be near others for more than a few minutes.  Wash your hands every time you touch something others might have touched.

DOH-Nassau’s epidemiologists are investigating 12 new cases, and their contacts, today.
