Traffic will be reduced to two lanes, shifted to one bridge during demolition, reconstruction.
STARKE, FL. – The replacement of the Alligator Creek bridges over U.S. 301 in Starke is set to begin next week, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
The $3.5 million Florida Department of Transportation project will include demolition and replacement of both the northbound and southbound Alligator Creek bridges. FDOT has hired Commercial Industrial Corporation to complete the job.
Preliminary work is expected to begin on Monday, July 13. In the coming weeks, traffic will be reduced to two lanes and all northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted to one bridge. It is expected that the southbound bridge will be demolished and rebuilt first. Once completed, traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed bridge while the other is demolished and rebuilt.
The current bridges were built in 1962.
The project is expected to take approximately one year to complete.
The current speed limits on U.S. 301 through this area will remain as set. Any additional lane closures throughout the project are only allowed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
