Candidate Joe Francis Zimmerman III

Today Joe Francis Zimmerman III announced his candidacy for the Nassau County Ocean, Highway and Port Authority – District 2.

“After years of experience being involved in legislative affairs and the community – I believe the Port can do better. With Covid-19 and the current economic conditions it is important that we tighten the belt buckle and ensure the Ocean, Highway and Port Authority has a place in a 21st century economy as well as a financially sustainable future. During my time working as a Constituent Liaison in the Florida House, I worked on meetings between the Ocean, Highway and Port Authority and the community to find solutions to conflicts that arose, including revisions to the Port Master Plan.

It is past time to modernize the Port Authority to serve as a stronger economic driver in Nassau County. In addition, as a small business owner I understand that for the Port to be successful you have to keep costs low, cut out waste, ensure safety, provide good service and innovate to be more competitive.

I believe my experience makes me uniquely qualified to steer the Port onto a new course towards increased profitability and new, local jobs.”

Joe currently owns a technology infrastructure company servicing medical, retail and industrial settings. and previously served as district staff for Florida House District 11, and Jacksonville’s 7th Council District. Joe has been actively engaged in the past including advocating against the financial impact of the stewardship district and in favor of protecting public beach access rights.

Currently, Joe serves on the Eldersource Board of Directors and as Vice President of the Citizens for Public Beaches and Shores. Joe previously served on several local boards and was Chair of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Advisory Team.
