Editor’s Note:  With no new cases in Nassau County we are issuing an abbreviated report.  When the daily report shows no new cases in Nassau County or if there is nothing of significance to report, we will not post information on that day.

The State of Florida Issues COVID-19 Updates

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The State of Florida is responding to COVID-19. In an effort to keep Florida residents and visitors safe and aware regarding the status of the virus, the Florida Department of Health will continue to issue this update every day through Phase 1 of Florida’s reopening plan. Once the state moves into Phase 2, DOH will provide this update once per week. However, DOH will continue to update the COVID-19 dashboard and post the state report daily.

Governor Ron DeSantis is in constant communication with Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz and State Surgeon General Dr. Scott Rivkees as the State of Florida continues to monitor and respond to the threat of COVID-19.

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference with Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin J. Thibault in downtown Orlando to announce the opening of five new Interstate 4 (I-4)/State Road (S.R.) 408 flyover ramps. This project is completed more than three months ahead of schedule.

Additionally, First Lady Casey DeSantis announced a nearly $2 million emergency grant to address mental health and substance use disorders in Florida. The funding will help fulfill the increased need for behavioral health services resulting from COVID-19. More information can be found here.

Nassau County Emergency Management: As of 11am, May 18, 2020, FDOH Nassau has no new cases for COVID-19 testing in Nassau residents. The total case count to date remains the same at sixty-six (63 Nassau residents and 3 non-FL residents) for Nassau County. As of this date, 54 individuals have been released from isolation.
