Limited vehicular access to Nassau County beaches

5/16/20 @ 11:15 a.m. – As many of you know, Peters Point and Burney Park were both reopened to vehicles yesterday. The areas directly in front of beach walkovers have been reserved for pedestrian use. Driving lanes and designated parking areas were established for increased safety of beach users. This seems to be working well. In fact, we were contacted by numerous individuals yesterday expressing their gratitude that there is now a defined area for vehicles apart from pedestrians.

Just to reiterate, vehicle access is being limited to County residents and active military personnel only at this time to prevent overpopulation. However beach parking lots and walkovers are open for everyone to enjoy. Guards are present at both vehicle access points to check that the driver has a ID with a Nassau County address or an active military ID.

We hope everyone has a safe and fun time at the beach this weekend and that everyone continues their social distancing.
