During these challenging times related to COVID-19, acts of kindness are especially appreciated. Nassau Sewing for Hope, a local organization, delivered the second installment of donated handmade masks to Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA), March 30. Home Health staff, case managers and Meals on Wheels drivers use the non-medical grade masks in their daily routines to help stop the spread of germs. Every mask is made with two layers of cotton and one layer of flannel or fleece, finished with elastic on each side; most of the fabric is donated. Pictured are NCCOA Advocate Home Healthcare staff and “mask models” Elizabeth Cantwell, R.N. (left) and Debra Jean Landolfi, Director.

Eliza Young, founder and coordinator of Nassau Sewing for Hope, displays some of the masks, handmade by approximately 50 volunteers who are delivering on requests from Nassau County businesses and organizations in need of masks and hospital gowns to help combat COVID-19. If you would like to help this effort, contact Eliza Young at [email protected] or 305-790-0912.
