Unless all the posts on Facebook, etc. over the last 24 hours were lies, the Route 17 “detour” was and continues to me to be a big publicity joke. Casr were driving right around it. This is now the beginning of week three when it was suggested to limit axcess to Amelia Island as with but two(2) ways onto the island we could have avoided transmission of C-19. Sad but all county/city officials are too busy issuing “public health” announcments to see the obvious.

I do not understand why FDOT has done this, The Press Release is not at all helpful.

Does anyone have any idea about what they think closing this ramp will achieve?

This does not make sense to me. There is a weigh station right before 17 S. bound and another weigh station on 17 right after the S. bound exit. If these stations are checking for vehicles from N.Y., N.J. and Connecticut, this S. bound exit should not be closed.
