Yes!! Now we need the county to close their beaches ASAP!!

The next logical step is to restrict access to this island to its residence and essential Personnel Services only. There are but two options to this virus death or quarantine. People need to get in touch with reality immediately.

This is bandwagon CYA governing at its worst. This is not West Palm or Daytona or PCB or even Tampa area. The beaches here are a wide open space and never really crowded. Easy to keep your distance. Same with Ft Clinch. Why is a hike or bike ride through our state park a hazard. And no reason to say Death or Quarantine. This is not Ebola!
Really? Have you seen the numbers coming out of Italy,Spain,etc.? Just forget China as you will never get the truth. Even assuming these are half what has occurred, perhaps you should head on up to NYC and see the sights, eat a nice meal, ride the subway and experience urban living. Please Google Isolation Centers (the Florida Governor used the term for the first time last night!) and what the State of Washington has had to do~~~medicial services triage.
In terms of the beaches here on AI, for the past several days I walked up, looked and left. There were thousands of oh those sacred tourists on top of one another! heaven forbid the juice of tourist dollars stops flowing!
Because heaven forbid we just restrict access to the island to non-county residents. We manage to keep plenty of space when it’s just us. So now, with mental health issues coming due to feelings of helplessness, you take away the main stress reliever for us.

And, before someone jumps on me and says “it’s to protect us”…..I work in health care with 40+ years experience including infection control. There is no reason to completely close the beach to residents. Limit hours so people aren’t just congregating. If the beach can be open until 9am and after 5pm that gives us all plenty of time to walk and destress.
In the meantime, the arcade on 8th St. is STILL open and packed and other shops were still open in town. Only the bars and restaurants were shut down last I checked. I heard the bowling center in Yulee was absolutely PACKED Friday night.
But hey, let’s make sure the residents can’t walk on the beach at sunrise.
We are in a situation where depression, anxiety and PTSD are going to be REAL problems. Unlike colder climates we actually have a healthy and safe outlet and they take it away.

Here is a novel idea(no pun intended). Limit beach activity to walks, running, strolling. No chairs, no fishing, no watercraft. Easily enforceable. It is a knee jerk reaction to completely close the beaches “in an abundance of caution” just because everyone else has. Have the sheriff’s department do their job.
On a side note, we Americans are willingly giving up our constitutional rights without even a whimper.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
