Timucuan Parks Foundation and AARP host Healthy Living Series Nov. 14 at Fort Caroline

Jacksonville, Fla., Nov. 7, 2019

Timucuan Parks Foundation and AARP invite the community to join them for Healthy Living: Fresh Air, Fitness, Friendship and Fun, a series of free monthly walks in parks and preserves on the First Coast. Healthy Living: Hike into History will take place on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Fort Caroline National Memorial.

Participants should meet at the visitor center at 12713 Fort Caroline Rd. at 9 a.m. The morning will start with a ranger-led walk to the Timucuan hut where the ranger will discuss the cultural aspects of the Florida natives including the hunting methods, food, clothing and shelter. The group will then take a 1.2-mile hike on the LeMoyne Trail loop which will take people through the peaceful maritime hammock. Participants should wear comfortable shoes for the walk and bring a reusable water bottle. The event is free and Nature Valley granola bar snacks will be provided. Those interested are asked to register attimucuanparks.org/healthy-living.

The Healthy Living Series in December titled Healthy Living: Art in the Park will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Jacksonville Arboretum at 1445 Millcoe Rd.

Each Healthy Living adventure will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 12 p.m. The series is designed to promote healthy living by teaching new ways to get fit and to show the therapeutic effects a walk in the park can provide. About Timucuan Parks Foundation

Timucuan Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization that preserves, promotes and enhances Jacksonville’s natural areas through community engagement, education and enjoyment. The foundation originated in 1999 with the Preservation Project Jacksonville, Inc. to identify and assist in acquiring the most vulnerable and environmentally sensitive lands in Duval County. The acquisition of lands created the largest urban park system in the United States. Timucuan Parks Foundation works with park partners, including the National Park Service, Florida State Parks and the City of Jacksonville, to promote environmental stewardship, the health benefits of the parks and preserves, and an appreciation for Jacksonville’s special outdoor spaces.
