Pasta 4 Paws dinner to be held Saturday, Oct 12

October 11, 2019

Great food for a great cause is returning Saturday: The Nassau Humane Society’s 15th annual Pasta 4 Paws spaghetti dinner and silent auction. It has become a community tradition, and it’s this Saturday, Oct. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Atlantic Recreation Center, 2500 Atlantic Avenue.

NHS has been breaking records this year for animal adoptions, with more than 1,000 so far. NHS has helped find homes for dogs rescued from South Korean meat farms, and for several of the 97 dogs who weathered Hurricane Dorian at a home in the Bahamas.

“From our local rescue partners to overseas rescues, our supporters have made it possible for NHS to make a huge impact on animal welfare locally and globally,” said Christina Sutherin, NHS Director of Operations.

Pasta 4 Paws is NHS’s biggest fund-raising event of the year. You’ll be able to choose from spaghetti pasta or penne pasta, and between alfredo or marinara sauce, with meatballs or chicken on the side if you like. “Our vegan friends can enjoy pasta with red sauce with no worries,” said event planner Dionna Sowers of NHS.

You’ll also get a salad, bread, a selection from the cookie bar, and a beverage. You can dine in or carry out.

The Humane Society Silent Auction is a popular addition to the Pasta 4 Paws dinner.

This year’s silent auction will be one of the biggest ever, with items including Southwest Airlines tickets, gift baskets, golf, hotel and tourist packages, and many more.

Again this year, Hupp & Ray will provide the crowd-pleasing music, and adoptable pets from the NHS Adoption Center will be on hand to greet you. Wine will be available for purchase from the Amelia Island Wine Company, with a portion being donated to NHS.

Tickets will be $15 per person, and free for kids age 6 and younger.

The food will be prepared this year by members of the Fernandina Beach High School culinary arts program, under the direction of Chef Michael Gass. “We wanted to involve every part of our great community, and what better way to do that than give our young generation of chefs a moment to shine,” Dionna said.

You can purchase tickets at the NHS Adoption Center, 639 Airport Road, and the NHS Dog Park next door; the NHS Second Chance and Closet resale stores in the Eight Flags Shopping Center on South 14th Street; and Redbones Dog Bakery at 809 S. 8th St. You can order them online on the NHS Facebook page or at NassauHumane.org (a service fee applies). Tickets also will be available at the door.

“Pasta 4 Paws is always a great night out with friends and family. NHS is all about bringing people and pets together, and this is the time we celebrate that,” Dionna said. “Please join us for a great evening of delicious food and guilt-free shopping. Your dinner and/or silent auction purchase will be helping to save a life.”
