Mayor John Miller reads Proclamation as Sherry Harrell looks on.

Mayor John Miller read a proclamation at the October 1, 2019 Regular Meeting of the Fernandina Beach City Commission in which the City officially joined the Princess Amelia Chapter of the National Colonial Heritage Society declaring October 2019 National Colonial Heritage Month.

Princess Amelia Chapter President Sherry Harrell was present to accept the Proclamation.

Established in 1915, the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century is an organization of women, eighteen years of age or over who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies of the United States of America.  The Princess Amelia Chapter is one of the many chapters located throughout 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada.

The proclamation states that this great country’s first arrivals continue to convey the true meaning of inheritance by reminding us that our privilege to live in a free country stemmed from “loving our country, obeying its laws, respecting its flag and defending it against all enemies.”

Really? What is this extraordinary fixation with these pathetic proclamations? Don’t our elected representatives have better things to do than indulge in this childlike nonsense?
