Contract crews continue to deconstruct the damaged city marina in preparation for replacing the attenuator dock damaged during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 a well as dredging and reconfiguring the marina’s south basin.
Fernandina Beach City Manager Dale Martin provided the following update in his Friday report dated January 11, 2019:
- Southern Attenuator– Removal of pilings should be completed next week (although some will remain to support dredging operations). Dock and utility design ongoing (Project Manager Bronson Lamb met with dock manufacturer this week in St. Petersburg).
- Southern Basin– Removal of pilings should be completed next week (although some will remain to support dredging operations). Dredging is likely to begin the week of Jan 21 (estimate three weeks for completion).
- Northern Attenuator– No additional information: US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) review continuing. Requested authorization to demolish the former boater check-in facility (included as part of Southern Attenuator contract).
- Seawall– Tentative meeting scheduled with engineer to consider alternative courses of action.
In a waterfront related matter, Martin also updated City Commissioners and the public on plans for the January 22 workshop to discuss obstacles to waterfront development. He reported that invitations to select professionals have been issued. This workshop will solicit feedback from those professionals regarding design, engineering, and economic obstacles to waterfront redevelopment and determine opportunities for the City Commission to address those obstacles.
That workshop is scheduled for 2 hours beginning at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. The public is welcome to attend.
