Fernandina Harbor Marina Manager Joe Springer notified interested parties via email shortly after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon that the Fender construction barge has arrived and work will begin on removing the southern attenuator on Monday, November 19.

The Fernandina Harbor Marina has been struggling to remain operational following damages caused by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

Springer wrote, “[The barge] is located at the South end of marina and BOY DOES IT LOOK GOOD to have it here.”  He followed with a second email an hour later, in response to those who didn’t believe his first email.  The proof is in the photo below.

Fernandina Beach City Manager Dale Martin has also reported that the city is awaiting the final signed contract to proceed with work in the South Basin.  An agreement to utilize the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) spoil site on Crane Island will be presented for City Commission approval on Dec 4 with FIND approval scheduled for December 14.

US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) review of plans for the marina’s north attenuator continues. Design concepts are being developed.
