The City Building Department surveyed 329 building permits in September, an increase of 80 over September 2017. By activity, the greatest number of permits were issued for mechanical work (54), followed by roofing/reroofing permits (50) and plumbing permits (49). Thirteen permits for new buildings were issued, and three demolitions were authorized.
Year to date figures show that total permits for 2018 (3,373) outpace those issued in 2017 (2988). The number of new homes built in the first 9 months of 2018 (145) is almost identical to the figure for the same period last year (143). Twenty-eight permits for new commercial buildings were issued during the 2018 period compared to only seven for first nine months of 2017.
