It is political campaign season, and once more campaign signs have sprouted around the city. Fernandina Beach City Manager Dale Martin announced that his office has received numerous complaints about illegal placement of these signs in city right-of-ways (ROWs).
The Fernandina Beach Code of Ordinances states:
It shall be unlawful to tack or place any political campaign sign or advertisement on any pole, tree or other plant or structure on public property or to place any political campaign sign or advertisement on any public street, sidewalk, alley or right-of-way or other public property. (Ord. No. 2006-26, § 3, 12-5-06)
City Code Enforcement will be harvesting this crop of illegally placed signs and consigning them to a city facility where they will remain until campaign representatives claim them.
Martin noted that none of the illegally placed signs are associated with candidates for city elections. Rather they represent candidates for Nassau County Commission, School Board and Port Authority.
