The Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau County (BGCNC) has received a $50,000 challenge grant from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. The Delores Barr Weaver Fund will match new financial gifts to BGCNC in any amount received through December 31, 2018, designated for the 2018 Matching Gift Program. Funds will be used to support scholarships, member programs and capital improvements for the Nassau County Boys & Girls Clubs.

For the last 17 years, BGCNC has provided positive youth development services for Nassau County’s youth from all backgrounds, including academic enrichment, after-school tutoring, prevention programs, and health and wellness programs. BGCNC has a strong desire to increase the number of children they serve and this grant will be instrumental in helping them achieve their goal.

BGCNC currently operates two clubs (the Miller Freedom Center and the Roberts Learning & Achievement Center), providing year-round services to over 500 youth. During the school year, both clubs operate from after school to 7PM, Monday- Friday and the clubs are open until 9PM for teens. The clubs are also open 8AM to 6PM on non-school days, including a 9-week Summer Academy.

The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida is Florida’s oldest and largest community foundation and is now in its 54th year. The Foundation works to stimulate philanthropy to build a better community by helping donors invest their philanthropic gifts wisely, helping nonprofits serve the region effectively, and helping people come together to make the community a better place. The Foundation has more than $385 million in assets and has made grants in excess of $450 million since 1964.

In 2012, Delores Barr Weaver made a gift of $50 million to establish the Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the largest gift in the Community Foundation’s history. The Fund provides grants to nonprofits that do work Mrs. Weaver has supported over many years and to encourage others to do so as well. Mrs. Weaver has an extraordinary legacy of philanthropy, and she has provided transformative support to dozens of nonprofit organizations that uplift, enlighten and advance our community.
