Editor’s Note: The Nassau County Board of Commissioners have cancelled a meeting scheduled for tonight at 8:00 p.m. At this time, we do not know the reason for the cancellation.
Earlier this week, Senator Bean was successful in striking the two amendments in the Senate Bill that Nassau County opposed that the county believed would allow Raydient to renege on its obligations to develop and fund recreation space inside the ENCPA (Wildlight).
However, yesterday the House bill went to the floor and the amendments at issue were left in the bill (after Rep. Byrd attempted to have them stricken). It is up for a third and final reading today.
The companion bill was set to hit the Senate floor today, which has led to many discussions between the parties, lobbyists, etc. Although the bill made it out of committee without the amendments, they could be added back when it goes to the floor.
It has now been proposed that Paragraph 3 will be removed if the county agrees to leaving Paragraph 4. Paragraph 3 is the larger issue for Nassau, as it is the provision which the county believes would lead to Raydient being able to renege on its financial responsibilities for the public recreation space in its development. Paragraph 4, meanwhile, deals more with the time constraints under which the county must work under when reviewing plans. The Florida Association of Counties agrees with this course of action.

*In order for the county to move forward supporting the removal of only Paragraph 3, the Board of County Commissioners must meet tonight to approve it (as previously they only approved the removal of both paragraphs).
