The Fernandina Beach Police Department (FBPD) has been awarded a grant of $15,528.89 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to purchase six portable police radios. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awards grants to equip first responders with lifesaving equipment. The six police radios purchased with the FBPD grant will be deployed with the Fernandina Beach Police Auxiliary Corps (PAC), a sixty-two person volunteer organization whose members provide thousands of hours each year to help provide safety for the citizens and visitors of Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Harry Kegler, Chairman of the Fernandina Beach Police Foundation Board of Directors, expressed gratitude on behalf of the board and the Police Auxiliary Corps and thanked Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for providing such wonderful community support to local public safety programs. PAC Commander Gary Eversole says the radios will be used primarily during special events to ensure the safety of participants and attendees. “We want to express our gratitude to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for honoring us with this grant! This grant for the six radios will ensure that we can timely communicate with the proper Fernandina Beach Public Safety Departments in case of any emergency or violation of our laws.”

Police Chief James Hurley expressed appreciation for the grant award and said, “Our Police Auxiliary Corps is a very valuable community asset and this grant will allow us to replace our outdated radios without having to ask for General Fund dollars from the City.  It has always been our goal to grow this volunteer program without creating another budget demand.  Local community grants like this one are critical to our success.”

The grant was written by Grants Administrator Lorelei Jacobs in collaboration with the FBPD and the PAC.
