Senator Aaron Bean (R-Fernandina Beach) has announced that he will oppose SB 574, Tree and Timber Trimming, Removal, and Harvesting. The bill will preempt to the state the regulation of the trimming, removal, or harvesting of trees on private property. SB 574 also prohibits certain local governmental actions relating to the trimming or removal of trees or timber.

“Having served as the Mayor of Fernandina Beach, I understand the importance of home rule and allowing local governments to make their own decisions, especially regarding local tree ordinances,” said Senator Bean. “I oppose SB 574 because I believe local governments should have more say, not less, in how they want their communities to look.”

Senator Bean represents Senate District 4, which includes parts of Nassau and Duval Counties. He can be contacted in Tallahassee at (850) 487-5004 or in his District Office at (904) 757-5039.

Thank you, Senator. This issue is definitely a local issue and we should be able to make decisions here that impact us in unique ways. This is not something that Tallahassee should be involved in.

As Robert said, I’m also skeptical of this commitment and support on Issues about this Island. I do hope he is a No vote on SB-574

So Senator Bean is opposed to the state telling local governments what to do when it comes to trees but wants the state to tell local governments what they have to do with immigrants. The hypocrisy is palpable.
