A ribbon cutting marks the grand opening of the NHS Second Chance Closet.

The Nassau Humane Society’s second resale store, NHS Second Chance Closet, is officially open for business. The Closet features women’s and men’s clothing, jewelry, hats, purses and more. It’s just a few steps down the sidewalk from NHS’s Second Chance store, in the 8 Flags Shopping Center at 1014 S. 14th St. in Fernandina Beach.

From left, Closet Co-managers Margaret Shero and Judy Nettuno and Director Penny Landregan cut the cake.

A grand opening ceremony was held this month, including a ribbon-cutting. “Every penny of profits will go to help the animals at NHS,” just like the profits from Second Chance, says Penny Landregan, director of both stores.

The expansion into the second store doubles the amount of space available for clothing and accessories. It also opens more space inside Second Chance for other merchandise, such as furniture, and a new reading room. Both stores are open Monday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. (They will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday for Thanksgiving, reopening Friday.)

Volunteers are needed for four-hour shifts to help in both stores. Donations of gently-used merchandise are also appreciated. If you’d like more information, please call Second Chance at (904) 321-0022.
