Drivers Education has been serving Nassau County students for many years. High school students have the opportunity to get experience in safe driving during the summer. The registration begins soon after Spring Break and is reserved for the first 50 students at each high school, with the exception of Hilliard who has space reserved for 25 students. The course consists of four days of classroom instruction and two days of driving. The classroom instruction includes everything from changing a tire to the proper execution of lane changes.

The district appreciates the involvement of the City, County and FHP law enforcement agencies that come in to speak to students about real-life experiences encountered on the road. Other guest speakers include: NACDAC, local insurance agencies, local car dealerships, and organ donation agencies. Mr. Thomas Purvis, one of the instructors in the program stated: “The hands-on learning begins when the kids get behind the wheel!” “The students apply what they have learned in the classroom.” “All of the cars are equipped with a passenger side brake.” Students have a positive learning experience by being in the vehicle with a certified Driver’s Education Instructor. One student said “I’m glad I had a little coaching as I got into the heavier traffic in the Yulee area!” Another student pointed out, “the Interstate didn’t seem nearly as stressful as he thought it would be!”

We would like to thank our community for their continued support of our student drivers, from parking lots to restaurants and fellow commuters. We look forward to seeing you on the road as we continue to serve another generation of Safe Drivers!
