Commissioner and Mayor Edward Boner announced today at 3:00 p.m. that he will not seek a second term on the Fernandina Beach City Commission. His announcement posted on Facebook appears below:
“After great consideration, I will not be seeking re-election to the city commission in 2015. Initially, I planned to announce later in the year, but felt a delay, could discourage other qualified candidates.
It has been an honor and privilege. I want to thank all of you for your faith and support over the last three years and look forward to giving back to the community in the future.”
Boner is a native of Fernandina Beach. He won election in 2012 defeating current city commissioner Tim Poynter. For two terms he was elected to serve as mayor of the city.
Ed,
Thank you, not only for your service, but also for the calming effect and the non confrontational attitude you brought to each meeting. You will be missed
Commissioner Boner, Was sorry to hear your announcement today. We were looking forward to your next term. You’ve always maintained a professional decorum and had a calming effect on the Commission proceedings. Sir, You’ll be missed. Thank you for your service to our town.
Mayor, I have always been impressed with the way you have handled your position. I am sorry to see you will not be seeking reelection. Thank you for your dedicated service to our Island. You will be missed.
Ed, you will be missed…..good luck!!
Mayor Boner — you are a class act and I was always impressed with how you voted by your convictions, not just with the crowd . . . I hope that the next Mayor will be as gracious and considerate as you have been.
Ed, disappointed to hear of your decision but certainly can understand with the responsibilities of family and job. You have been a stabilizing influence on the FBCC with measured and thoughtful responses to the issues at hand. Best wishes!
I too regret that Mayor Boner will not be seeking re-election. I have admired his thoughtful and non-confrontational approach.
On a personal note, I’m the Canadian who was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and I shall always be grateful that Mayor Boner made it a point to acknowledge my interest in giving back to my community.
