DSCN4553It’s almost ready. Now that the building work has been completed, people are hard at work installing new shelving, returning the absent books and wiring computer stations for the new, improved Fernandina Beach Branch of the Nassau County Library System. Look for a soft re-opening sometime during the week of April 20th, with a dedication and formal re-opening to follow.

DSCN4556It has been a long time since the inside of the original building looked so bright and cheerful. No more musty smell and stained ceilings!

Assistant Director Janet Loveless is eager for patrons to be able to enjoy the library’s new digs. “This is their library,” she said, crediting the ongoing work of the Friends of the Library in raising funds for furniture and computer stations.

The expansion and renovation of the city building housing the library at 25 North 4th Street in Fernandina Beach has been a public private partnership, with funds contributed by Nassau County, the City of Fernandina Beach and the Friends of the Library, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Those interested in supporting further improvements and library activities may learn more at the Friends of the Library website:   http://fernandinafol.org .

Library doors will reopen to the public soon. Meanwhile, the book drop is still open.

What a great addition (pun intended) this will be for the City and island community.

We are all so proud of our new Library!! However, just a gentle reminder to all that the work of the Friends of the Library this year is to raise the final funding to provide the furniture and computer stations for this beautiful facility . . .

The work continues and all contributions this year are greatly appreciated!
