I have no knowledge of what the problem within the FBFD was or is. I have read and followed this like the rest of you. I have watched as the public, as recently as last Tuesday at the Commission meeting voiced their opinion on what should or shouldn’t be done and how long the process should take. We all have witnessed the disagreements between our Commissioners on this topic. The fact remains that for about 18 months there seems to have been a problem within the Dept. The problem, whether real or perceived, has been an ongoing issue. The issue has grown to the point that a City Official has been fired, a law suit has been filed, and the City Manager’s job has pretty much been put on the line over the handling of this whole mess. It seems that once again perception is reality. The Commission has recognized that even the perception of a problem, is in fact a problem when it comes to the safety of the City. The Men and women of the FBFD will always do their jobs to the fullest of their responsibility. They are professionals and are dedicated to saving lives. That is what they do. They do it because they have that inner sense of pride and caring. They will do it under good leadership and they will do it under bad leadership. The present Commission recognized that a problem was present. They understood that there was a need to sort it out and get to the bottom of it and get the right answers. They did the right thing and allowed the City Manager the time for him to handle the situation. Some thought the time frame was too long, some thought it was too short. The City Manger within the allotted time frame did his job, took action, and with luck has solved a problem that has been going on for well over a year. Hopefully now at the end of the day the problem will be fixed. The can has not been kicked down the road. The Commission and the City Manager did what they felt was needed to correct this problem and we can now move on with City Business. Thank you to the Commission and thank you to the City Manager.

What a shame.I’m not going to be critical of the city manager,who I think is,and has been, doing a good job during his tenure.Perhaps this action is necessary for the good of the Fire Dept.However, to see someone who the record indicates has performed remarkably well as chief be forced out as a result of externally generated allegations and innuendo is certainly nothing to be proud of.
